ABOUT
Michel Coppieters is een musculoskeletale gespecialiseerde fysiotherapeut waarbij hij extra interesse heeft in problematiek rondom neurodynamica en pijn. Sinds 2014 is Michel professor aan de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Hij houdt zich hier bezig met het programma van de Master Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, waarin hij een groot deel van het onderzoeksdeel leidt. Voordat hij werkzaam werd aan de VU was hij assistent professor aan de Universiteit van Queensland in Brisbane, Australië. Hier gaf hij les aan bachelor en master studenten fysiotherapie. Hij was daarnaast de inaugurale directeur van de Neuropatic Pain Research Group binnen het Centre for Clinical Research Excellence in Spinal Pain, Injury and Health.

Neurodynamics is a diagnostic concept that uses movement to assess increased mechanosensitivity of the nervous system in people suspected of having a neuropathy; and a treatment concept that uses movement to restore the altered homeostasis in and around the nervous system. In this presentation, we will explore clinically relevant pathobiology of peripheral neuropathies to better understand the value and limitations of neurodynamic tests and neurodynamic treatment. We will also discuss potential working mechanisms of neurodynamic exercises and look at clinical efficacy studies.
